Music and Management

Two worlds apart, music and management appear to have little in common.

Think again, says HCL Technologies Chief Marketing Officer Krishnan Chatterjee, who believes the pursuit of change is bridging these two worlds today.

I am delighted to present here the unique perspective of our marketing chief, who is a self confessed ‘musician who dabbles in marketing’ and a member of Contra Band, an amazing ‘white collar’ band comprising successful, young-at-heart professionals.

Krishnan points out that musicians have been known for ages to rebel for change against whatever system they find themselves in. Management, however, has more recently got focused on change, or ‘transformation’, actively seeking growth in a world post recession.

Consequently, what management requires today is creativity and innovation. And managers are beginning to discover today what musicians have known for many years: The one thing that can never offer creativity and innovation is the system. That is why, says Krishnan, it is high time for the world of management to start rebelling against the system and explore individual creativity.

I invite you to enter the creative world of musicians like Krishnan who harness dissatisfaction with the present and collaborate with like minded people to shore up each other’s weaknesses and create unique music – and a better tomorrow.

Let’s join Krishnan and do as he says, “Put music back into management, even if it wasn’t there in the first place.”
